New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): In a major counter-espionage breakthrough, Delhi Police’s Special Cell has uncovered an international spy module and arrested 43-year-old Nepali national Prabhat Kumar Chaurasia for allegedly working for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and leaking sensitive information related to India’s security.

According to police officials, Chaurasia obtained 16 SIM cards from Indian telecom providers Airtel and Jio under his name. Investigations revealed that 11 of these SIM cards were being operated from Pakistan, including cities like Lahore and Bahawalpur, via WhatsApp. The SIMs were reportedly routed through Nepal to ISI agents.

Authorities stated that these WhatsApp numbers were being used to establish contact with Indian Army personnel and to gather classified defense information. Initial probes suggest that Chaurasia had been in touch with ISI operatives since 2024 and was lured with promises of a U.S. visa and opportunities in journalism.

A case has been registered at the Special Cell police station under Sections 61(2)/152 of the Indian Penal Code. Police sources confirmed that the suspect is under interrogation, and agencies are now investigating the wider network, possible accomplices, and his direct links with ISI handlers in Pakistan.

The arrest comes at a time of heightened India-Pakistan tensions, especially after the recent Pahalgam terror attack, following which India has taken a tough stand against Pakistan and exposed its role on international platforms.
