Gurugram (The Uttam Hindu): The trial run for the Airport Tunnel and Dwarka Expressway has begun, marking a significant milestone in the project's completion. If no shortcomings are found during the trial, both tunnels are expected to be opened permanently from next week. The Dwarka Expressway, which connects Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur, Delhi to Kherki Daula Toll Plaza in Gurugram, promises to revolutionize travel between the two cities.

Reducing Traffic Congestion

The expressway is expected to reduce traffic pressure on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway by 30% and lower pollution levels. With the opening of both tunnels, vehicles coming from Manesar and Dwarka will be able to reach the airport in significantly less time - 30 minutes and 10-15 minutes, respectively. This will not only benefit travelers but also reduce congestion in front of Shiv Murti, one of the most traffic-prone areas on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway.

Impressive Infrastructure

The Dwarka Expressway boasts impressive infrastructure, including a 3.5 km long tunnel from Yashobhoomi metro station to Shiv Murti and a 2.2 km long tunnel from Shiv Murti to the airport. The expressway's elevated section is built on a single pillar, showcasing cutting-edge engineering. With approximately 2 lakh MT of steel and 20 lakh CUM of concrete used in its construction, this project is a testament to India's growing infrastructure capabilities.

Inauguration and Benefits

The Dwarka Expressway is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pending a formal schedule from the Prime Minister's Office. Once operational, the expressway will benefit not only travelers but also the environment by reducing pollution levels. The project is expected to give a boost to the region's economy and connectivity, making it an exciting development for the area.
