Amritsar(The Uttam Hindu): In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police dismantled a gangster network responsible for the murder of a municipal councillor Harjinder Singh in Jandiala Guru. The operation was carried out within just eight hours of the incident, leading to the arrest of four individuals linked to an interstate organized crime group Kishan Gang.

During the incident, one of the accused Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi reportedly opened fire on the police and later shot himself in an attempt to avoid arrest. He is currently undergoing treatment under police custody. Police recovered a 9mm Glock pistol from the scene, which is suspected to have been used in the crime.

DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav confirmed the successful operation in an official tweet, stating that swift action was taken in response to the murder and the suspects were apprehended promptly. He emphasized the department’s commitment to tackling organized crime and ensuring public safety. Authorities confirmed that the four suspects arrested played a key role in the planned murder of Harjinder Singh and that the killing was part of a larger web of gang-related violence orchestrated from abroad.

The operation is being hailed as a major success in Punjab Police’s continued crackdown on criminal gangs active in the state.
