Meerut (The Uttam Hindu): In a peculiar case of marital discord from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a woman left her husband after he refused to shave his beard and eloped with his clean-shaven younger brother. The incident has sparked widespread curiosity, given its unusual nature and the familial dynamics involved.

The husband, a religious cleric residing in Ujjwal Garden Colony, had married the woman, Arshi, seven months ago. Arshi, who has completed her Class 12 education and is currently pursuing higher studies, reportedly began urging her husband to shave his beard shortly after their marriage. However, he declined, citing religious commitments.

According to the husband, this disagreement became a regular source of tension, leading to frequent arguments and involvement from both families. During one such confrontation, Arshi allegedly expressed that she had not fully consented to the marriage and could not continue the relationship unless he complied with her demand to shave.

Amid the ongoing disputes, Arshi is believed to have developed a relationship with her husband’s younger brother, who does not maintain a beard. On February 3, the two reportedly eloped, leaving the family stunned. The husband lodged a missing persons complaint for both his wife and brother after failing to locate them despite reaching out to relatives. He also contacted Arshi’s family, who allegedly refused to get involved, stating they had cut off ties with her. Adding another layer to the situation, the husband has alleged that Arshi is now demanding ₹5 lakh from him.

According to local authorities, a formal complaint has been registered, and the matter is under investigation. Police have confirmed that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
