HC Issues Notice to Centre, Haryana and BBMB on Punjab's Plea Over Bhakra Dam Water Dispute

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): The High Court has issued a notice to the Center, Haryana and the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) regarding the water dispute between Punjab and Haryana over the Bhakra Dam. The notice comes after a review petition filed by the Punjab government and the next hearing is scheduled for May 20.
BBMB Meeting Postponed
A meeting of the BBMB, which was supposed to discuss water release strategies, has been postponed to tomorrow. The meeting aims to prepare a plan for water distribution among Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Water Dispute Escalates
The dispute centers around Haryana's demand for 8,500 cusecs of water, while Punjab is willing to provide only 4,000 cusecs. Punjab claims Haryana has already used its share of water. A meeting between the Chief Secretaries of both states and BBMB officials failed to resolve the issue.
All-Party Meetings Called
Both state governments have called all-party meetings to discuss the water issue. Haryana plans to approach the Supreme Court to resolve the matter as soon as possible. The dispute has escalated tensions between the two states, with both sides digging in their heels over water allocation
