Heatwave Hits Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana: IMD Issues Warning for Intense Heat

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi residents will experience intense heat on Sunday, while heavy rainfall is expected in northeastern India until April 27. Between April 26 and 29, a new spell of rain, accompanied by thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds, will begin in eastern and central India. Meanwhile, heatwaves are expected to continue in north-western India and the surrounding plains until April 30.
On Saturday, Delhi recorded its highest temperature in the past three years, reaching 42.1°C. The previous highest temperature was 43.5°C in 2022. Severe heat is also continuing in Punjab and Haryana. In Punjab, temperatures recorded were 43.9°C in Bathinda, 42.8°C in Patiala, 41.3°C in Ludhiana, and in Haryana, temperatures were 43.6°C in Rohtak, 41.5°C in Hisar, 42°C in Sirsa, and 41.7°C in Bhiwani.
Relief in the Coming Days:
Due to the effect of a Western Disturbance, light rain and thunderstorms are expected in several areas of Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan, which may bring some relief from the heat. Further thunderstorms and rain activities are expected in the first week of May. An 'Orange Alert' has been issued for 13 districts of Jharkhand for April 26-27.
