Heatwave Scorches Delhi, Bihar & Rajasthan; MP-UP Brace for Rain

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Weather patterns across India are showing sharp contrasts, with intense heat scorching parts of North India while rain brings relief to other regions. The Meteorological Department has issued several region-specific updates predicting both heatwaves and thunderstorms in the days ahead.
Delhi-NCR: The capital is reeling under rising temperatures once again. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 39°C and 26°C respectively today, accompanied by strong surface winds. Relief may come as rain is likely around May 25.
Bihar and UP: A heatwave alert has been issued for several districts in Bihar, including Patna and Gopalganj. Similar alerts are in effect for nearly 30 districts in Uttar Pradesh, where temperatures in western parts are expected to stay between 38–40°C. Despite this, light rain and gusty winds are also expected in parts of UP today.
Rajasthan: While parts of the state continue to experience heat, some relief is expected due to the impact of pre-monsoon activity. Western Rajasthan is under the influence of a cyclonic system, increasing the possibility of local weather changes.
Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh: These regions may witness strong winds blowing at speeds of 50–60 kmph today. Rain with thunder and lightning is also likely under the influence of an active western disturbance.
Hilly States: Himachal Pradesh may receive rainfall on May 16–17, while Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh could experience scattered to moderate showers with thunderstorms on May 14.
Madhya Pradesh: Some regions of MP are expected to receive rain, although the intensity and spread remain limited.
Northeast India: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is predicted over Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh till May 16, and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till May 15. Meghalaya is likely to see particularly heavy rainfall on May 13.
