India Bolsters Naval Power: Russian-Made Stealth Warship ‘Tamal’ with BrahMos to Join Fleet

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India-Russia defense cooperation is going to get a new dimension. Amid India's strategic preparations against the terrorist network active in Pakistan, the Indian Navy is soon going to get one of the world's most advanced multi-role stealth frigates 'Tamal'. This warship has been built at Russia's Yantar shipyard and is set to be handed over to India on 28 May 2025.
Amid rising tensions with Pakistan, India will get state-of-the-art stealth warship 'Tamal' from Russia, equipped with Brahmos : 'Tamal' is part of the India-Russia deal to build four Talwar-class frigates in 2016. Under the deal, two ships are being built in Russia and two in India. The first Russian-built warship INS Tushil has already joined the Indian Navy.
What will be the features of 'Tamal'
Equipped with BrahMos supersonic missile, which can destroy maritime targets in seconds.
Equipped with anti-submarine warfare capabilities, torpedoes and rocket launchers.
Speed of 30 knots (approx. 55 km/h) and operational range of 3000 km.
Facilitates deployment of multi-role helicopters, suitable for surveillance and rescue missions.
Stealth design, which allows it to escape enemy radar detection.
According to the Ministry of Defense, more than 200 officers and sailors of the Indian Navy have received special training in Russia to operate and operate 'Tamal'. All its tests have been completed under the supervision of the Indian team in Russia.
This warship , which is important from the security point of view,
will be given to the Indian Navy at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan are at their peak and preparations for maritime surveillance and military power have intensified. According to experts, the arrival of 'Tamal' will give a decisive boost to India's maritime power.
