India Scores Diplomatic Win: Colombia Withdraws Sympathy Statement for Pakistan

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has achieved a major diplomatic victory on the global stage, as Colombia has officially withdrawn its earlier statement that expressed condolences over deaths in Pakistan following Indian strikes. This reversal came after an objection was raised by Shashi Tharoor, who was part of the Indian delegation.
Earlier, during Operation Sindoor, in which India targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the Colombian government had expressed disappointment over the resulting casualties. Responding to this, Shashi Tharoor visited Colombia, raised India's concerns, and expressed disappointment over the Colombian reaction.
Following a meeting with the Indian delegation, Colombia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio said, “We are fully confident that, based on the clarification and the real situation in Kashmir that we now understand, we can continue further discussions.”
Commenting on Colombia’s updated response, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said the Deputy Foreign Minister very respectfully acknowledged the withdrawal of the previous statement and conveyed that she fully understood India’s position, which is very valuable to India.
On Thursday, during his visit to Colombia’s capital, Shashi Tharoor elaborated on India’s firm stance on terrorism. He provided details about Operation Sindoor and expressed his disappointment over Colombia's initial response showing sympathy toward Pakistan.
