Good News for Travelers: Railways to Run 150 Puja Special Trains From September 21 to November 30

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Festive travel this year is set to get easier for passengers as the Railway Board has announced 150 ‘Puja Special’ trains to operate between September 21 and November 30. The official notification has been issued, and these trains will make a total of 2,024 trips during the festive period. The move comes as part of the Railways’ broader plan to run nearly 12,000 special trains for festival rush, with this being the first phase of the rollout.

According to officials, these trains are being introduced to manage heavy festive rush, particularly around Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. More trains are expected to be announced in the coming days depending on demand.

Zone-Wise Train Distribution:

South Central Railway (SCR): 48 trains, 684 trips, mainly from Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Vijayawada.

East Central Railway (ECR): 14 trains, 588 trips, covering Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur.

Eastern Railway (ER): 24 trains, 198 trips, from Kolkata, Sealdah, and Howrah.

Western Railway (WR): 24 trains, 204 trips, from Mumbai, Surat, and Vadodara.

Southern Railway (SR): 10 trains, 66 trips, from Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai.

In addition, East Coast Railway (Bhubaneswar, Puri, Sambalpur), South Eastern Railway (Ranchi, Tatanagar), North Central Railway (Prayagraj, Kanpur), South East Central Railway (Bilaspur, Raipur), and West Central Railway (Bhopal, Kota) will also run special services to handle extra passenger load.

Railway officials said the initiative is aimed at ensuring passenger convenience and safety, as overcrowding has become a major issue in recent years during the festive season. Special arrangements will also be made at stations to prevent chaos and mishaps.
