Ranchi (The Uttam Hindu): A major accident was averted on Monday at Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport. A plane coming from Patna to Ranchi, carrying 175 passengers, collided with a bird just before landing. After this incident, the pilot showed presence of mind and kept the plane in the air for about 40 minutes and then made an emergency landing safely. All the passengers on board the plane are completely safe.

Officials said that IndiGo's Airbus 320 aircraft had taken off from Patna for Ranchi with 175 passengers. Airport director RR Maurya said that when the aircraft was 10-12 nautical miles away from Ranchi airport and at an altitude of 3000-4000 feet, it collided with a bird. According to eyewitnesses, the bird that collided was a vulture.

After the bird hit, there was a slight vibration in the plane, but the pilot kept the situation under control and contacted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and asked for permission for an emergency landing. After getting permission from ATC, the pilot flew the plane safely in the air for 40 minutes and then successfully made an emergency landing.

Officials said that some parts of the plane have got minor dents due to the vulture hitting them. Currently, a team of engineers is inspecting the plane and assessing the damage. The airport administration confirmed the incident and said that all the passengers are safe and they have been deboarded and sent to the terminal. Due to this incident, the operation of aircraft at the airport was affected for some time, which is now slowly being normalized.
