IPL 2025 Qualifier 2: PBKS vs MI – Who Advances if Weather Plays Spoilsport?

Ahmedabad (The Uttam Hindu): There will be a thrilling clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Qualifier-2 match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 today. This important match will start at 7:30 pm Indian time at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The winning team in this match will enter the final, where it will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on June 3 (Tuesday), while the losing team's IPL 2025 journey will end here.
In this season of IPL, rain has also disrupted many matches and so far three matches have been inconclusive due to rain. In such a situation, the biggest question is that if it rains during the Qualifier-2 match or the match is not held due to any other reason, then how will the result be determined. Let's know about the rules related to this:
According to the playing conditions of IPL, if at least five overs of play are not possible due to rain in Qualifier-1, Eliminator or Qualifier-2, then the winner will be decided through Super Over.
If the Super Over is also not possible, the finalists will be determined based on the position of the teams in the points table. In this case, if the match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians is cancelled due to rain, Punjab Kings will reach the final, as they were at the top of the points table at the end of the league stage.
However, the good news for cricket fans is that the weather is expected to remain clear during the match in Ahmedabad on Sunday and the match is expected to be full. According to Accuweather.com, the chance of rain on June 1 is only 25 per cent, while the temperature is predicted to hover around 39 degrees Celsius. There was light drizzle during Punjab Kings' practice session on Saturday, but the rain is unlikely to have any significant impact on the match on Sunday.
A reserve day has also been kept for the final match. The final match of IPL 2025 is to be played in Ahmedabad on June 3. If for some reason the result is not decided on that day, then the final can be held on June 4. On the reserve day, the match will start from where it stopped on the first day.
If rain interrupts play on the reserve day and the minimum five-overs of play is not possible in the regular time, then the winner of IPL 2025 can be decided by a super over. And if the super over is also not possible in the final, then the winner will be declared on the basis of the team's position in the points table.
