New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): If you're a Netflix user, here's some important news for you. The streaming service has confirmed that it will be discontinuing support for older Amazon Fire TV Stick devices. Starting June 2, 2025, Netflix will no longer work on first-generation Fire TV devices.

This decision comes as Netflix is transitioning to the AV1 codec, a new high-efficiency technology that offers better video quality while using less data. Unfortunately, the first-generation Fire TV Stick doesn't support AV1, making it incompatible with Netflix's new format.

Users with devices like the Amazon Fire TV (2014), Fire TV Stick (2014), and Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote (2016) will be most affected. These devices are now outdated and no longer meet the needs of modern streaming platforms. It's worth noting that Amazon had already stopped providing software and security updates for these models some time ago, so Netflix’s decision is not entirely unexpected.

While this may be disappointing for some, it’s actually a good time to upgrade your device. By switching to a newer model, you'll experience faster streaming and access to better features. If you're still using an old Fire TV Stick and your TV isn’t a smart TV, consider upgrading to the Fire TV Stick 4K. Currently, it’s available for ₹5,999 on Flipkart and Amazon, though prices could change.
