Udhampur (The Uttam Hindu): A wave of curiosity and faith surged in the Udhampur district of Jammu division when a massive stone was seen floating on the surface of the Tawi River near Salmai Bridge. Seeing this stone, weighing approximately 2 to 4 kilograms, floating instead of sinking, created a sensation among locals, passersby, and devotees. The news spread like wildfire, and a huge crowd gathered on the riverbank to witness this unique sight.

Seeing this stone floating in the river, the devotees present there were filled with faith and considered it a divine sign. Many linked this incident to the story of Ram Setu from the Ramayana period, where it is believed that stones cast into the sea by Lord Rama's monkey army would float. Those present at the scene began to chant with devotion and, calling it a miracle of God, began to watch with a sense of worship.

While people consider it a miracle, geological experts have explained this phenomenon from a scientific perspective. According to experts, this stone could be pumice, a type of volcanic rock. Experts explained that tiny air bubbles are trapped within this type of stone, making it less dense than water. This is why, despite its heavy weight, it floats on the surface instead of sinking.

Experts also say that such stones are not usually found in local rivers, but due to floods or changes in water flow, they can flow from distant areas and reach here. However, this unique confluence of faith and science has sparked heated discussions throughout Udhampur. The administration and experts have appealed to the public to maintain peace and avoid any rumors, and to respect scientific facts as well as people's personal beliefs.
