Gurdaspur (The Uttam Hindu): Amid heightened security concerns following Operation Sindoor, authorities have ordered complete night blackouts in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district and the Ajnala area of Amritsar until further notice.

Officials confirmed that the blackout in Gurdaspur will be enforced from 9 PM to 5 AM daily, with all non-essential lighting to remain switched off. Exceptions have been made for hospitals and essential services, but even these are instructed to keep windows and doors shut to prevent light leakage. Security personnel have been deployed to monitor adherence across towns and villages.

In Amritsar’s Ajnala region, a similar blackout order has been issued. Residents have been advised to stay indoors and switch off all lights after dusk. The move comes after reported disturbances and explosions in the region, which have put local authorities on high alert.

These blackout measures are part of broader civil defense preparedness initiated across Punjab in recent days, including mock drills and emergency rehearsals. Officials say the steps are preventive and aim to ensure public safety amid escalating tensions in the region.

Residents are being urged to cooperate fully with the blackout protocols and remain alert. Authorities have stressed that compliance is critical for security forces operating under sensitive conditions.
