No Fuel for 10-Year-Old Diesel and 15-Year-Old Petrol Vehicles, New Rule Effective from July 1

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): Starting July 1, 2025, petrol pumps in Delhi will stop dispensing fuel to diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years, as part of a major move to tackle rising air pollution in the capital.
This new rule, enforced by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), will apply to vehicles identified as End-of-Life (EOL) — not just those legally banned from roads. Around 500 petrol pumps in Delhi have been equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to detect such vehicles based on their registration data.
The ANPR system will automatically scan number plates and check a vehicle's age, fuel type, and status. If the vehicle is found to be non-compliant, the system will block refueling.
The rule will extend to Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Sonipat from November 1, 2025, and to the rest of NCR from April 1, 2026.
So far, 3.63 crore vehicles have been scanned through ANPR, and over 4.9 lakh vehicles have been tagged as EOL. Enforcement actions for violations may include fines, vehicle seizure, or mandatory scrapping — marking a strong push towards cleaner air and greener mobility in Delhi-NCR.
