Civil Defence Mock Drills to Begin Again in States Bordering Pakistan from May 29

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Four states bordering Pakistan- Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat and Rajasthan are set to conduct civil defence mock drill again starting from May 29. The drills will include blackout exercises, air raid sirens, evacuation protocols and public awareness sessions to prepare civilians for emergencies resembling wartime situations.
Meanwhile, Haryana is set to conduct a major statewide civil defence exercise named "Operation Shield" on May 29, across all 22 districts. The exercise aims to test emergency mechanisms, improve coordination between the civil administration, defence forces, and local communities, and involve large-scale mobilisation of civil defence wardens and volunteers.
The exercise will also include a controlled 15-minute blackout near vital areas, except for essential emergency services like hospitals, fire stations, and police stations.
The civil defence drills come weeks after India launched Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, and the two countries reached a bilateral understanding to cease all military action and firing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently stated that India's actions against terrorism are decisive and that Pakistan can no longer hide behind proxy wars.
