New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu ): As extreme heat continues to grip several parts of the country, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided a much-needed glimmer of hope. Starting June 10, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to lash several regions in South and Northeast India, bringing relief from the scorching summer heat. According to the IMD, states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are likely to witness a strong spell of rain between June 10 and June 14. The forecast also includes regions like Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam, all of which may receive significant rainfall during this period. In the Northeast, heavy showers are expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from June 11 to 14, and in Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram from June 10 to 13.

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Odisha are also forecasted to receive rain between June 8 and 12, while Madhya Pradesh may get rain on June 8 and 9, Chhattisgarh on June 9 and 10, and Jharkhand between June 11 and 14, accompanied by gusty winds. Meanwhile, North India continues to suffer under a severe heatwave. The IMD has issued warnings for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Western Rajasthan, where high temperatures will persist through the week. Interestingly, the monsoon arrived early in Kerala this year and made swift progress initially. However, its advancement stalled after May 29. The IMD now expects the monsoon to resume its forward march next week, potentially bringing broader relief across India. While South and Northeast India can expect rainfall relief soon, much of North India must brace for continued heat before conditions begin to change in the coming days.
