Riyadh (The Uttam Hindu): Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed its diplomatic initiative to mediate between India and Pakistan amid heightened tensions. In a statement released Saturday morning, the Kingdom’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the move comes under the direct instructions of Saudi leadership.

As part of this initiative, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Member of the Council of Ministers, and Climate Envoy Adel Al-Jubeir visited both India and Pakistan during the period of May 8–9, 2025. The statement noted, “The visit comes as part of the Kingdom’s efforts towards de-escalation.”

The Saudi minister first made an unscheduled visit to New Delhi, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Following his engagements in India, he travelled to Islamabad, where he held discussions with Pakistan’s top political and military leadership.

The Kingdom emphasized its commitment to promoting peace and regional stability, stating that these diplomatic efforts are aimed at reducing hostilities and encouraging dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

This development marks one of the most high-level and direct diplomatic interventions by Saudi Arabia in recent Indo-Pakistani tensions.
