Landslide on Army camp in Sikkim: 3 Soldiers Martyred, 6 missing; Rescue Operation Intensified

Gangtok (The Uttam Hindu): Amid heavy rains in Sikkim including the Northeast, a military camp in Chhaten in the northern region was hit by a landslide on Sunday evening. 3 soldiers died in this tragic accident, while 6 security personnel are reported missing. According to defense officials, the landslide occurred at around 7 pm yesterday evening. So far 3 bodies have been recovered from the spot.
Officials said the rescue operation is continuing at a rapid pace despite inclement weather and challenging terrain conditions. Army officials said in an official statement that so far three bodies have been recovered and four other soldiers have been rescued with minor injuries. Rescue teams are working round the clock in difficult conditions to locate the six missing personnel.
It is worth noting that due to the southwest monsoon, floods and landslides have caused heavy destruction in states like Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Sikkim and Manipur. In Assam, the rain has broken the record of the last 132 years.
