Sangrur(The Uttam Hindu): Former Union Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was cremated with full state honours at his native village Ubhawal today. Thousands of family members, friends and villagers attended the funeral. The last rites were performed by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa's son Parminder Singh Dhindsa. It is worth mentioning that on May 28, Sukhdev Singh breathed his last at the age of 89 in Fortis Hospital in Mohali. After this, his body was kept at his residence in Sangrur.

Today, Dhindsa's body was taken from his residence in Sangrur to his native village Ubhawal in a convoy. On this occasion, a large number of vehicles accompanied him to the village.




Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was cremated with full state honours on Friday afternoon. Thousands of people gathered at the funeral and after the initial rituals, Parminder Singh Dhindsa performed the last rites. A large number of political leaders of Punjab today expressed their condolences to the Dhindsa family. These included Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, Bikramjit Singh Majithia, BJP's Ashwani Sharma, BJP leader Preneet Kaur and her daughter Jai Inder Kaur, Akali leader Prem Singh Chandumajra, Congress leader Vijay Inder Singla, Rozana Ajit editor Barjinder Singh Hamdard, farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal, AAP MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj, BJP leader Randeep Singh Deol, BJP leader Jatinder Kalra, BJP leader Vikram Pali, Jaswinder Singh Prince and a large number of political leaders were present. On behalf of the Punjab Government, Sangrur Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Rishi today paid floral tributes on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to the mortal remains of senior Akali leader and former Union Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa during his last rites at his native village Ubhawal in Sangrur district. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Mohali on Wednesday evening after a prolonged illness.Meanwhile, Cabinet Ministers Harpal Singh Cheema, Aman Arora and Laljit Singh Bhullar, Lok Sabha Members Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Malvinder Singh Kang besides senior bureaucrats of the Punjab Government and police officers paid their last respects to Mr Dhindsa.The Deputy Commissioner also conveyed the Chief Minister's condolences to the bereaved family and paid homage to the departed soul. Later, the former Union Minister was cremated with full State honours at his native residence.
