Flood Alarm in Chandigarh: Monsoon Rains Push Sukhna Lake to Danger Level, Authorities Sound High Alert!

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Chandigarh is on high alert after continuous heavy monsoon rains caused Sukhna Lake to overflow, pushing water levels to the danger mark. In response, local authorities have opened the lake’s floodgates to release excess water and prevent flooding in nearby areas.
According to media reports, a high alert had already been issued in the Derabassi region earlier due to rising water levels. The administration has advised residents and shopkeepers living near the Ghaggar River to remain in their homes and exercise caution.
Officials explained that the controlled release of water from Sukhna Lake aims to reduce pressure on the lake and minimize the risk of flooding in surrounding areas. They emphasized that water is being discharged gradually and the situation remains under control for now.
Authorities have reassured the public not to panic, but have urged everyone to stay alert as a precautionary measure while the monsoon rains continue.
