
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) – Panic erupted at Varanasi airport on Sunday evening when a bomb threat was reported on an Indigo Airlines flight. Security agencies were immediately alerted after a threatening letter was found on the flight, which was traveling from Hyderabad to Varanasi.
Upon receiving the information, as soon as the plane landed at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur, all passengers were safely evacuated as a precautionary measure. The plane was then parked at a safe location away from the runway and a thorough inspection was initiated.
According to airport officials, while the plane was in the air, a crew member found a note in the rear restroom stating that flight number 6E-6719 contained a bomb that could explode at any moment. Upon receiving the letter, the pilot immediately informed Varanasi Air Traffic Control (ATC).
Security agencies took swift action.
Upon receiving information about the threat, CISF, police, fire brigade, and bomb disposal squad were alerted. Several ambulances from the city also reached the airport. As soon as the plane landed, passengers were taken to a secure area, while the plane and passengers' luggage were thoroughly searched. This incident also caused concern among the family members who had come to receive the passengers. However, the airport administration quickly brought the situation under control and provided necessary facilities to the passengers.
No suspicious items were found during the inspection.
After a thorough search that lasted nearly two hours, by around 8 pm, no suspicious items were found on the plane, which brought a sigh of relief to security agencies and airport officials. As a precaution, airport security has been further tightened. Officials say that such threats are taken seriously and security protocols are followed at every level.
