Uniform of Trust, Pocket of Chitta: ASI Caught Red-Handed in Punjab

Bathinda(The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking revelation, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Bathinda Jail has been arrested for possessing heroin, commonly known as "chitta." The accused, identified as ASI Gurpreet Singh, was caught with 45 grams of the substance during a surprise check while he was heading home.
Acting on multiple complaints that the ASI was involved in drug smuggling, jail authorities launched a discreet surveillance operation. Their suspicions were confirmed when Gurpreet Singh was intercepted and searched. During the check, he was found with the narcotic concealed inside his uniform. Following the recovery, a formal case has been registered against him, and further investigation is underway. Authorities are probing whether he was part of a larger supply network and if drugs were being funneled into the jail system.
This arrest comes amid an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking in Punjab. The state government has ramped up efforts to combat the drug menace, including the demolition of properties belonging to known smugglers and numerous high-profile arrests in recent weeks. Officials have reiterated their commitment to rooting out drug abuse and corruption from within the system, emphasizing that no one will be spared—regardless of rank or position.
