Ahmedabad Accident: Former Chief Minister Vijay Rupanis body Identified, DNA matches; Last Rites To be performed in Rajkot

Ahmedabad (The Uttam Hindu): The body of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who lost his life in the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, has been identified. His DNA matching was done at around 11:10 am today. After this, his body will be handed over to the family. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi confirmed this sad news and said that Rupani's last rites will be performed in Rajkot today.

It is worth noting that on Thursday, Air India flight number AI-171 going from Ahmedabad to London crashed in Meghnagar area. There were a total of 242 people on board the plane including pilots and crew members, including Vijay Rupani. He was going to London to meet his daughter. A few minutes after taking off at around 1:38 pm, the plane collided with a five-storey building of a hostel.

The accident was so gruesome that DNA testing had to be done to identify the bodies. Officials said that three days after the accident, 32 victims have been identified through DNA testing so far, out of which 14 bodies have been handed over to their families. According to Additional Civil Superintendent Dr. Rajneesh Patel, the identified victims are from different parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan.

In this heartbreaking plane crash, 241 out of 242 passengers died, while one person miraculously survived. A video of the incident also surfaced, in which fire and smoke were seen rising after the plane crashed. This incident has plunged the entire country into mourning.
