Gariaband (The Uttam Hindu): Security forces have achieved a major success in anti-naxal operations in Chhattisgarh. A hardcore naxalite carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh was killed in an encounter with security forces in Gariaband district. This encounter took place late Friday evening. With this, the total number of naxalite killed by security forces in the state this year has increased to 145.

Giving information in this regard on Saturday, a senior police officer said that the encounter took place in the forest near Motipani village in Jugaad police station area of ​​​​Gariaband district, located about 180 km from the capital Raipur, late Friday evening. A joint team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and E-30 unit of district police had gone out on an anti-Naxal operation after receiving information about the movement of Naxalites in the area.

The officer said that during the operation, there was heavy firing between the security forces and the Naxalites. After the firing stopped, the body of a Naxalite was recovered from the spot in the search operation. A self-loading rifle (SLR) and a large amount of explosive material were also recovered from near the body. The killed Naxalite has been identified as Yogesh, a member of the divisional committee. The state government had announced a reward of Rs 8 lakh on Yogesh. The senior police officer also said that this year, i.e. 2025, a total of 145 Naxalites have been killed so far in different encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh. Out of these 145 Naxalites, 128 have been killed in seven districts of Bastar division, while 17 have been killed in Gariaband district, which falls under Raipur division.
