New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Messaging platform WhatsApp is going to make a big change to improve the experience of its millions of users and reduce spam on the platform. Meta-owned WhatsApp has now decided to limit the number of broadcast messages sent.

This new feature is currently seen in WhatsApp's Android beta version 2.25.14.15 and its testing has started. This update is expected to affect normal WhatsApp accounts as well as business accounts.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will set a monthly limit for broadcast messages. In the testing phase, users may only be allowed to send a fixed number (possibly 30) of broadcast messages every month. This move is being taken with the aim of curbing unnecessary and bulk messaging.

What are broadcast messages?

Broadcast messages are a WhatsApp feature that allows you to send the same message to multiple people in your contact list at once. However, the recipient receives this message as a personal chat, so they do not know how many other people this message has been sent to, which is different from a group chat.

The report also states that if a user needs to reach out to more people than the prescribed limit, then he is advised to use options like WhatsApp Status or Channels.

At present, there has been no official announcement from WhatsApp or Meta regarding this new broadcast limit feature, but its presence in the beta version makes it clear that the company is working on it and it can be rolled out to all users soon. This change can prove to be helpful in preventing the flood of unwanted messages on the platform.
