Ahmedabad (Uttam Hindu News): Adani Group has been named the official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2026. The day is an international observance declared by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and is organized by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). This is the first time an Indian organization has been selected by WFEO to recognize the contributions of engineers on World Engineering Day.

The company, one of India’s largest transport, utility and infrastructure developers, said the recognition reflects the leadership of the Adani Group in accelerating the clean energy transition and its capability to deliver clean, reliable and affordable electricity at scale. The company added that these efforts strengthen India’s energy security while also contributing to global sustainable development goals, especially Sustainable Development Goal 7.

Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy, said that the group is demonstrating that clean energy can be both large-scale and affordable, while also remaining powerful and inclusive. He stated that this represents India’s contribution to the world and offers a model where progress and sustainability move forward together. He also highlighted the Khavda Renewable Energy Plant as a symbol of India’s climate action, reflecting the combined strength of Adani Green Energy, Adani Energy Solutions and Adani New Industries working together to promote an integrated renewable future.

The theme for World Engineering Day 2026 is “Smart Engineering for a Sustainable Future through Innovation and Digitalization.” The Adani Group’s work in renewable energy, digital infrastructure and large-scale transport and utility systems reflects this vision and shows how technology-driven engineering can support sustainable development in real-world conditions.

The Khavda Renewable Energy Project in Gujarat is planned to reach a capacity of 30 gigawatts by 2029. The World Federation of Engineering Organizations has highlighted this project under its World Engineering Day 2026 program as an important example of India’s green transformation. A short film showcasing the project’s scale, ambition and impact has also been presented.

Spread across 538 square kilometres, the project is about five times the size of Paris and nearly equal to the area of Mumbai. Once completed, it will become the world’s largest power plant across all energy sources. Adani Green Energy Limited has already operationalized more than 7 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity at Khavda and aims to achieve the full 30 gigawatts capacity by 2029.
