After 13 years, Speed Post rates to be revised; new facilities announced

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Indian Postal Department has announced a revision in the tariffs for its prestigious "Speed Post" service. These new rates, revised after a gap of 13 years, will be implemented nationwide from October 1, 2025. Along with the fare hike, the department has also added several new features to win customer trust and modernize the service, including important features like OTP-based delivery.
According to the Postal Department, Speed Post rates were last revised in October 2012. This decision was made in light of increased operational costs since then and the need to invest in new technology. Launched on August 1, 1986, the Speed Post service has been a key pillar of India Post's modernization and remains a strong competitor to private courier companies.
Now these new and modern facilities will be available
The Department of Posts has launched several new services to enhance and secure the customer experience. Taking parcel security to unprecedented levels, features like 'Registration Service' and 'OTP-based Delivery' are now available for a nominal fee of ₹5 + GST, ensuring parcels reach the rightful recipients.
Additionally, the department has announced a special 10% discount on fares for students and a 5% concession to attract new bulk customers. Furthermore, the entire process has been modernized, with customers now receiving delivery notifications via SMS, convenient online booking, and real-time delivery updates, making the entire process more transparent and convenient than ever before.
Commenting on these changes, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia posted on the social media platform 'X', saying, "Now there's speed and comfort too." He said these steps are aimed at making India Post's Speed Post service more secure, transparent and technology-based, so that it can meet customer expectations.
