Amazon Plans Massive Job Cuts, Prepares to Replace 600,000 Employees with Robots, Report Reveals

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amazon, the second-largest employer in the U.S., is reportedly preparing to replace around 600,000 employees with robotic systems. Over the past two decades, Amazon has hired millions of warehouse staff, built a large network of contract drivers, and implemented advanced technology for recruitment, monitoring, and management. Now, the company is moving toward major workplace automation.
Internal documents and conversations with Amazon officials reveal that the company’s next target is to implement robotic systems in place of human employees. Since 2018, the number of Amazon’s U.S.-based employees has tripled to around 1.2 million. However, the company’s automation team estimates that by 2027, Amazon could avoid hiring 160,000 new employees, saving approximately 30 cents per delivery item.
Risk to 600,000 Jobs
Amazon officials have presented estimates to the board suggesting that robotic automation will allow the company to avoid increasing staff while still achieving its goal of doubling product sales by 2033. This means the company may not need to hire around 600,000 employees in the coming years. According to documents, Amazon’s robotics team aims to automate 75% of all tasks in the future.
