New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Central Government has launched the biggest attack so far on the illegal business of online gambling and betting. The Ministry of Information Technology, showing strictness, has completely blocked 300 more such illegal gambling and betting websites which were luring common people to become rich overnight.

After this latest action, the total number of such illegal websites and mobile apps banned by the government so far has reached 8400. This major action by the government has created a huge panic among those running the illegal business of online betting.

Rapid action after the Gaming Act, these platforms were wiped out

It's worth noting that the government passed the Online Gaming Act on August 22, 2025, which was strictly enforced nationwide starting October 1, 2025. Since the enactment of this new law, such digital strikes have intensified. Of the 8,400 platforms banned, 4,900 websites and apps were blocked solely after the Act's passage. Previously, 242 websites were blocked in January. The government has eliminated all e-sports and platforms that operated online betting games, casino slots, roulette, live dealer tables, satta or matka networks, real-money card games, and P2P betting exchanges.

These websites had become a hub of money laundering and cyber crime.

There are several serious reasons behind this sudden government crackdown on these websites. Investigations have revealed the sensational discovery that these illegal platforms were rampantly involved in money laundering and were also rapidly promoting cybercrime.

According to intelligence reports, most of these websites were operating from foreign servers, exposing ordinary citizens to the threat of widespread financial fraud. The government has taken this drastic step to protect citizens from financial ruin and the deadly addiction of gambling and betting, sending a clear message that such illegal activities will not be tolerated in the country.
