Beware: Fake 'Comet App' on app store can drain your bank account, warns perplexity CEO

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Arvind Srinivas, CEO of the renowned AI search engine Perplexity, has issued a serious warning to iPhone users. He warned about a fraudulent app on Apple's App Store that could pose a significant threat to users' smartphones and bank accounts. Srinivas alerted users through a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Arvind Srinivas clearly wrote in his post, "The 'Comet App' currently available on the iOS App Store is completely fake and spam. This app is not from us (Perplexity). When our AI startup officially releases this app or makes it available for pre-registration, we will inform you immediately."
Srinivas explained that such spam apps are extremely dangerous to your privacy and mobile data. These apps can hack into your phone and access sensitive information like OTPs. Furthermore, they can steal login details and passwords for other apps on your phone, potentially draining your bank account.
The CEO's warning comes at a time when there's tremendous excitement in the technology world about Perplexity's new AI browser, "Comet." Arvind Srinivas has previously claimed that the "Comet" browser will, for the first time, offer a genuine competition to Apple's Safari browser, which is the iPhone's default web browser.
The company announced this month that it was working on an iOS version of Comet. The app has already been a huge success on the Android platform. Taking advantage of this buzz, fraudsters have uploaded a fake 'Comet' app to the App Store to prey on curious users. Perplexity believes that their genuine Comet app will give iPhone users a new and smarter browsing experience, allowing them to access accurate search results faster.
