Big Mac, KFC and Pizza Hut now at your fingertips: Railways unveils new catering policy

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) - Passengers at railway stations across the country will now have easy access to food from major food brands like McDonald's, KFC, and Pizza Hut. In an effort to enhance passenger convenience, the Railway Board has made significant changes to its catering policy, allowing premium brand outlets to operate at stations for the first time.
The process of opening these outlets will be initiated soon, providing passengers with better and more varied food options during their journey. Previously, under the Railway Catering Policy of 2017, stalls at stations were allotted in three categories: tea stall, milk bar, and juice bar, which served only drinks, light refreshments, and limited snacks. Now, this policy is being amended to add a new category of premium brand outlets. These outlets will be allotted through e-auction for a period of 5 years.
Currently, IRCTC delivers popular food brands to passengers on board trains through e-catering. Once the new system is implemented, this same service will be available at railway stations as well. According to officials, these changes will ensure better quality, greater reliability, and a guarantee of branded food at stations. Passengers will have the option to choose from national and international brands in addition to local stalls.
This initiative by the Railways is considered a major step towards modernizing and enhancing the passenger experience at a global level.
