New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Keeping in mind the convenience of passengers, Indian Railways has made a significant change in the time of preparing reservation charts, which has brought great relief to the passengers hoping to travel on waiting tickets. It is often seen that passengers book tickets in the hope that their seats will be confirmed when the charts are prepared, but in the end they are disappointed and have to return from the station with their luggage. Keeping this problem in mind, the Railway Board has decided that now the reservation charts will be finalized at least 10 hours before the departure of the train.

According to the new guidelines, the chart preparation timetable has been divided into two parts. For trains departing between 5 AM and 2 PM, the first reservation chart will now be prepared by 8 PM the previous evening. Previously, this chart was prepared by 9 PM. For trains departing after 2 PM and before 5 AM the next morning, the chart will be prepared at least 10 hours before the train's departure time. Previously, this time limit was 8 hours. The Railways has instructed its IT wing, CRIS, to update these changes in the system, which will be implemented in a phased manner.

This move by the Railways will directly benefit millions of passengers stuck on waiting lists. Previously, when charts were prepared just four hours before train departures, passengers were left with no option but to travel to the train station. Officials believe that shifting the chart preparation time forward will allow passengers to know their ticket status (confirmed or waitlisted) much earlier. This will allow them to plan or cancel their journeys in time, saving them from last-minute rush and the hassle of returning to the station.
