Billionaire boom in India: New report shows one new billionaire every week

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : The number of billionaires in India is growing rapidly, with the country gaining a new billionaire every week so far this year, according to a report released on Wednesday.
According to the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025, India now has 350 billionaires, a six-fold increase from when the list was first released 13 years ago. The 14th edition of the Hurun List includes 1,687 business leaders with a net worth of over ₹1,000 crore. The list includes 284 new entrants, increasing the number of business leaders by 148 from last year. This number has increased by 859 in the last five years.
The report stated that the combined wealth of those on the list has risen to ₹167 lakh crore, a 5 percent increase over last year. This figure is more than Spain's GDP and equal to India's GDP. The report stated that due to global fluctuations and tensions, the average wealth of those on the list has fallen to ₹9,850 crore, from ₹10,320 crore last year. India's top 10 richest people are becoming even richer and younger. The threshold for entry into the top 10 richest list has risen to ₹1.83 lakh crore from ₹1.63 lakh crore last year, while their average age has dropped to 69, three years younger than before.
Startups are playing a key role in wealth creation, and a total of 97 startup founders made it to the list in 2025. Of the billionaires on the list, 137 are from the pharmaceutical sector, 132 from industrial products, and 125 from chemicals and petrochemicals.
