New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Artificial intelligence trailblazer OpenAI has now stepped into the social media arena with a bold new launch, its latest app, ‘Sora.’ Designed exclusively for short-form video content, the app is already shaking things up. Within hours of launch, Sora climbed to #3 on Apple’s App Store, right behind TikTok and Instagram, signaling a new era of AI-driven creativity in social media.

TikTok and Instagram will face tough competition, ChatGPT will soon bring Sora App : Sora, OpenAI’s powerful video generation model, now powers a standalone app that lets users create and share AI-generated short videos. The highlight? You don’t need a camera, shooting skills, or editing experience. Just type a natural language prompt — and the AI creates a full-fledged video for you.

OpenAI has also unveiled the Sora 2 model, said to be its most advanced video generation tool yet. The model produces videos so realistic that it’s hard to tell the difference between real and AI-generated clips. The Sora app also includes a special feature — Cameos — allowing users to upload their own photos or videos and transform themselves into movie characters, fantasy avatars, or surreal personas using AI magic.

A few years ago, deepfake videos were considered a cybercrime risk, but now the same technology has evolved into a creative force powering the AI content boom. However, privacy and misuse concerns remain. With Sora, anyone can generate hyper-realistic videos using someone’s image.

OpenAI claims to have implemented strong safety measures, blocking sexual and violent content. Still, reports suggest some users are trying to bypass these restrictions.

Recently, Meta launched its AI-only feed ‘Vibe’, which showcases exclusively AI-generated short videos. Now, OpenAI’s Sora app directly challenges platforms like Vibe, TikTok, and Instagram in the race for next-gen content. Currently, the app is available only in the U.S. via invite-only mode, but experts predict that after the testing phase, Sora will soon roll out globally, allowing creators in India and beyond to experience this revolutionary AI-powered video app.
