New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Leading Chinese automaker Chery has made a new and unique experiment in the automobile market. During a special media event held in Australia, the company introduced the world to its all-new KP31 dual-cab ute concept car. Chery claims that this is going to be the world's first diesel plug-in hybrid pickup. The company has made it clear that the production model of this powerful hybrid pickup will be launched in the global market by the end of 2026.

Powerful engine with excellent mileage and low noise

This new and modern pickup is being offered with a powerful 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder diesel engine, which will be supported by an advanced electric motor. Utes are generally referred to those utility vehicles which come in the form of pickups and are used for carrying heavy goods. According to the company, this new hybrid system will provide thermal efficiency of 47 percent and will be able to give about 10 percent more mileage than normal diesel engines. Apart from this, this system will be 10 percent lighter in weight and will reduce the noise and vibration of the diesel engine by about 30 percent, making long distance driving much more comfortable.

Will challenge giants in size and lifting capacity

The Chery KP31 has been specifically designed for heavy-duty work and long-haul travel. Its payload capacity is reported to be approximately 2,205 pounds and towing capacity is estimated at 7,716 pounds. These figures place it squarely in competition with highly popular and established pickup models like the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger. The concept model measures 5,610 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,925 mm in height. However, the final production version will be slightly reduced in length to approximately 5,450 mm.

Premium interiors with a rugged design

The exterior design of this hybrid pickup evokes a robust ladder-frame structure. It features a muscular, square body, upright headlamps, a sturdy rear bumper step, a snorkel, all-terrain tires, and attractive matte gray paint. While its exterior looks rugged, the cabin boasts premium and luxurious features. It features suede and leather finishes, a large touchscreen infotainment system, and a fully digital driver display. The company is preparing to introduce it for family and business use, as well as for off-roading and adventure enthusiasts. Currently, the KP31 is just a codename; its actual name and price will be officially revealed at launch.
