Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu): The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has given sugarcane farmers a major gift after Diwali. The government has increased the price of sugarcane by up to 30 rupees per quintal.

According to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's decision, the price of early-ripening sugarcane will now be ₹400 per quintal, while the price for regular varieties has been fixed at ₹390 per quintal. According to government information, the price of sugarcane has been increased by ₹30 per quintal. Sugarcane pricing has also been determined for the 2025-26 crushing season.

The price for early varieties has been fixed at 400 rupees per quintal and for the average variety at 390 rupees per quintal. This has brought a smile to the faces of farmers. A government spokesperson stated that the sugarcane price increase will result in an additional payment of 3,000 crore rupees to farmers.

He explained that the Yogi government has consistently increased sugarcane prices, raising the support price four times since 2017. A record payment of ₹2,90,225 crore has been made to sugarcane farmers in eight and a half years. From 2007 to 2017, only ₹1,47,346 crore could be paid for sugarcane. In the eight and a half years since 2017, sugarcane payments alone have reached ₹2,90,225 crore.

Compared to the previous governments' 10 years, 1,42,879 crore more payments were made during the Yogi government. Now 122 sugar mills are operational in the state, which is the second highest in the country. Previous governments had caused huge damage to the sugar industry, 21 mills were sold at throwaway prices. Due to the transparent management of the Yogi government, an investment of 12,000 crores has come into the industry. In eight years, four new sugar mills were established, 6 closed mills were restarted, and the capacity of 42 mills was expanded. The production capacity was increased to the extent of eight new big mills, and CBG plants were installed in 2 mills.

The "Smart Sugarcane Farmer" system has brought the sugarcane slip system completely online, eliminating the tyranny of middlemen. Sugarcane price payments are now being made directly to farmers' bank accounts through DBT. A system has been developed to manage sugarcane acreage, sugarcane speculation, sugarcane calendaring, and sugarcane slips online.

Centralized web-based "Smart Sugarcane Farmer" system, described as a "model system" by the Government of India. Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the country in ethanol production. Production: increased from 410 million liters to 1820 million liters, distilleries: increased from 61 to 97. Significant increase in sugarcane acreage, from 20 lakh hectares to 29.51 lakh hectares, Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the country.
