HDFC bank warns customers: UPI services to be disrupted on Dec 13 and 21, plan transactions accordingly

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): There is very important news for the crores of customers of HDFC Bank, the country's largest private sector bank. If you too depend on UPI for your daily needs, shopping or online payments, then you need to be cautious. The bank has officially announced that UPI services will be completely disrupted on two different days in the month of December due to technical maintenance and system upgrade. During this 'digital blackout' of 4 hours each announced by the bank, customers will not be able to make any online transactions even if they want to. If you do not plan for it in advance, then some of your important payments may get stuck and you may face problems.
According to the schedule released by the bank, this disruption in services will occur tomorrow, December 13, 2025, and again on December 21, 2025. The first maintenance will begin early tomorrow morning (December 13) at 2:30 AM and continue until 6:30 AM. Similarly, the system will be down during the same time period (2:30 AM to 6:30 AM) on December 21. During these eight hours, UPI transactions linked to the bank's savings and current accounts will be completely halted. This will affect not only the bank's app, but also third-party apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm, provided they are linked to an HDFC Bank account. Additionally, UPI payments and merchant settlements using HDFC RuPay credit cards will also be disrupted during this time.
In view of this inconvenience to the customers, the bank has also suggested an alternative way. The bank has advised that their 'PayZapp' wallet will continue to function normally during the downtime, so in case of emergency, customers can use the wallet for payments. The bank management has clarified that this technological upgrade is being done with the aim of providing a more secure, faster and better banking experience to the customers in future. Therefore, customers have been requested to note these dates and times and settle or schedule their important payments accordingly in advance so that they do not have to face problems at the last moment.
