New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has achieved its highest wealth creation growth in the last 30 years between 2020 and 2025. During this five-year period, the market capitalization of the country’s top 100 companies increased by ₹148 lakh crore. This sharp rise is largely attributed to the strong economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings were published in a report by Motilal Oswal Financial Services Limited (MOFSL).

According to the MOFSL report, the financial sector including banks and insurance companies created the most wealth. This was followed by sectors such as industrials, technology and utilities. Public sector undertakings (PSUs) also saw strong growth, especially in defence and energy. The report highlighted that the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) were among the biggest wealth creators during this period.

The report also noted that India has now become the world’s fourth-largest stock market. MOFSL Chairman Ramdeo Agrawal stated that India is currently in its fastest wealth creation phase. As the economy grows from $4 trillion towards $16 trillion, major new investment opportunities will emerge. He emphasised that long-term wealth will be created by those who invest in strong companies and choose the right businesses.

India’s GDP has risen from $1 trillion to $4 trillion over the past 17 years, and is expected to grow four times more in the next 17 years. According to the report, during this multi-trillion-dollar (MTD) era, financial services and consumer goods companies such as those making vehicles, smartphones and everyday products will grow rapidly. The report also predicted that many compounding or growth stocks will emerge, and large-cap companies are likely to perform even better in the coming years.
