Good News for India: Trade Deal with Oman on the Horizon After Completion of Talks

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Negotiations for a comprehensive trade agreement between India and Oman have been completed. Negotiations on the trade agreement between India and Oman began in the year 2023. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said in a written reply to a question asked by Congress member Hebi Mather Hisham in the Rajya Sabha that 'Negotiations on the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) have been completed.' Now a trade deal can be signed between India and Oman soon.
India's Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasad told the Rajya Sabha that talks on the trade deal between India and Oman started in 2023, which has now been completed. In fact, Congress leader Hebi Mather Hisham had asked a question in Parliament on India's trade deal, in response to which Union Minister Jitin said that a trade deal between India and Oman could be signed soon. The friendship between India and Oman is very old. Both countries are strategic partners of each other. We have diplomatic relations since 1955. However, the Union Minister did not mention the date of signing the trade deal in his reply.
Union Minister Jitin said that in the last five years, India has strengthened its trade alliances. We have signed free trade agreements with 5 major countries. At the same time, negotiations are going on with many countries on new deals. The trade deal between India and the European Union is likely to be implemented by the end of this year. Apart from this, India is negotiating many trade deals with Sri Lanka, Peru, New Zealand and America.
