India's best-selling EV gets expensive: MG Windsor prices go up after 2 years
The Windsor EV comes with 38kWh and 52.9kWh battery options with claimed range of up to 332km and 449km. Despite the hike, MG says it remains India’s No.1 EV with 75,000 units sold in 2 years

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): If you are planning to buy MG Motor India's popular electric car 'MG Windsor EV', which is making waves in the Indian automobile market, then there is some very important and shocking news for you. The company has officially announced a huge price hike for all variants of this car from July 2026. The price hike ranges from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 depending on the model. According to the company, this decision has been taken due to rising global raw material prices and increased manufacturing costs. It is worth noting that recently, major automobile companies like Kia and Toyota have also increased the prices of their vehicles.
The base model has seen the biggest price hike; see the new variant-wise prices
The entry-level 'Excite' base variant of the MG Windsor EV has seen the biggest price hike. This variant was previously available for ₹14.10 lakh (ex-showroom), but now customers will have to pay ₹60,000 more, or ₹14.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The 'Exclusive' variant, which follows, has seen its price increase by ₹46,900 to ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom). The 'Essence' variant, too, has become costlier by ₹46,900 (ex-showroom), and will now be available for ₹17 lakh (ex-showroom). Overall, the car's prices have been increased by 2.15% to 4.26%.

The company has also significantly increased the prices of its premium and larger-battery Pro variants. The price of the 'Exclusive Pro' variant has been increased by ₹52,000, bringing its new price to ₹17.90 lakh. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line model, the 'Essence Pro', will now be available at ₹19 lakh (ex-showroom), an increase of ₹40,000.

The MG Windsor EV is sold with two different battery options. The Excite, Exclusive, and Essence variants feature a 38 kWh battery, which claims to deliver a driving range of up to 332 kilometers on a single charge. The Exclusive Pro and Essence Pro variants feature a larger 52.9 kWh battery, which is claimed to deliver a driving range of up to 449 kilometers. However, the motor power is the same across all variants, producing 136 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque.

Despite this price increase, the MG Windsor EV continues to dominate the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market. Since its launch, it has remained MG Motor India's best-selling car. The company claims it is currently India's best-selling electric car. In July 2026, nearly two years after its launch, the car crossed a landmark sales milestone of 75,000 units in the country, demonstrating its immense popularity among Indian customers.
