New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amid global uncertainty over energy supplies, India has received a major boost with the arrival of the LPG tanker Jag Vasant at Kandla Port in Gujarat. The vessel reached India via the Strait of Hormuz carrying over 42000 metric tonnes of LPG, offering timely relief in a volatile global market.

According to port authorities, the cargo will be unloaded through mid sea transfer, a process that allows faster handling by transferring gas while still at sea. This method helps save time and ensures quicker distribution, strengthening LPG availability across the country. Kandla Port remains a key energy hub from where supplies are dispatched to multiple states.

In recent days, several other oil and gas shipments have also reached Indian ports safely. MT Shivalik arrived at Mundra on March 16, MT Nanda Devi docked at Kandla on March 17 and Jag Ladki brought 81000 tonnes of crude oil to Mundra on March 18. Additionally, the Liberian flagged Shenlong delivered Saudi crude to Mumbai earlier this month.

Despite ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran affecting the Strait of Hormuz, India continues to receive shipments through special permission granted by Iran. With the situation still sensitive, the arrival of Jag Vasant is expected to support stable domestic LPG supply in the coming days.
