New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman opened the coffers for the nation's women in the budget presented in Parliament on Sunday. Focused on farmers, youth, and the common man, this budget also launched a new and ambitious scheme, She Marts, to empower women. This government move is being considered a major leap towards women's empowerment, with the direct aim of making them economically independent.

Help in setting up your own business

In last year's budget, the government launched the "Lakhpati Didi" scheme to improve the economic condition of women associated with self-help groups. Now, taking this initiative a step further, the Finance Minister has laid the foundation for the She Marts scheme. The primary objective of this scheme is to provide substantial assistance to women in rural and urban areas in establishing their own businesses (business stability). The government wants women to become their own bosses, not just workers, and sell their products at fair prices in the market.

The government will provide capital at low interest rates

Under the She Marts scheme, the government will provide a comprehensive support system for women to establish their own businesses. The most significant feature of this scheme is that it will provide loans at very low interest rates to women to start and expand their businesses. Lack of capital has often hindered women's business ideas, but this scheme will provide them with easy access to loans at affordable rates. The Finance Minister has clarified that this budget aims to give new wings to the dreams of women, including those of every class, and connect them with the mainstream economy.
