New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Gold and silver prices had seen a sharp rise throughout 2025, and the upward trend has continued from the very beginning of 2026. In the early days of the new year, both precious metals are breaking previous records.

On Wednesday, the third trading day of the week, silver prices surged sharply at the opening itself, rising by more than Rs 12,000 in a single move. Gold prices also recorded a strong increase. Growing global uncertainty due to rising tensions between the United States and Iran has pushed investors once again towards safe-haven assets such as gold and silver.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), silver futures for the March 5 expiry jumped by Rs 12,803 compared to the previous close. Silver had settled at Rs 2,75,187 per kilogram in the last session, but on Wednesday it climbed to a new lifetime high of Rs 2,87,990 per kilogram.

So far this year, in just 10 trading sessions, silver prices have risen sharply by Rs 52,117 per kilogram. On January 1, silver futures were trading at Rs 2,35,873 per kilogram, which increased to Rs 2,87,990 per kilogram in early Wednesday trade. In the current week alone, silver has become costlier by Rs 19,020 per kilogram.

Gold prices are also continuously setting new records. In the first 10 trading days of 2026, gold futures have risen by Rs 7,369 per 10 grams. On January 1, 24-carat gold was priced at Rs 1,35,804 per 10 grams. On Wednesday, it increased by around Rs 832 to reach Rs 1,43,173 per 10 grams.

Market experts believe that the strong rise in gold and silver prices is driven by foreign investor selling and escalating tensions between the US and Iran. During periods of global instability, investors generally shift their funds towards safe investment options, and the same trend is clearly visible this year.
