New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A new and stricter rule has been implemented regarding UPI, which has become the most popular means of digital payment in India. Under this rule, if a user fails to keep their required information updated or their mobile number is inactive, their UPI account may be temporarily or permanently blocked.

According to the new rule, every UPI account must be linked to an active and valid mobile number. If the mobile number is disabled, unused for a long time, or not updated, the UPI ID may be considered risky and blocked.

This step is aimed at preventing digital fraud and fraudulent transactions. In many cases, closed mobile numbers are reissued to someone else, increasing the risk of misuse of old UPI accounts.

This rule applies equally to all UPI platforms, including Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. Ignoring the rules could result in payment failures, account suspensions, and disruptions to everyday digital payments.

What to do to keep the account safe:

To prevent the UPI account from getting blocked, users have been advised to keep the mobile number linked to the bank active, update it immediately if the number changes, keep using UPI from time to time and complete the KYC process.
