Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): The Maharashtra government has taken an important decision to promote electric vehicles in the state. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik informed that the state government has decided to exempt electric vehicles from toll tax at some major toll plazas including Atal Setu, Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Samruddhi Mahamarg. This new system is effective from midnight of August 22.

This decision has been taken under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. The government aims to encourage the use of electric vehicles in the state and promote eco-friendly transportation.

According to the information received, the government has issued a notification in this regard, which has been implemented under the Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1958. According to this, electric vehicles will be exempted from toll tax on certain routes and toll plazas.

The exemption will benefit electric four-wheelers (M2, M3, M6 category) and electric buses. This includes buses running under State Transport Undertaking (STU) and private electric buses. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said that this initiative will not only encourage electric vehicles but is also a positive step towards reducing pollution and promoting the use of clean energy in the state.

According to the minister, this policy will encourage more people to adopt electric vehicles and help the state move towards a green and sustainable development. The toll exemption will also provide financial relief to EV owners, which can accelerate the popularity of EVs. The minister believes that this move is considered a strong initiative towards making Maharashtra one of the leading electric vehicle-friendly states in the country.
