No trading in stock market today as BSE and NSE remain closed; here’s why

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Indian stock market will be closed today (Wednesday). On the occasion of "Bali Pratipada," both major domestic stock exchanges, the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and the NSE (National Stock Exchange), will be closed. Therefore, there will be no trading or buying or selling of any kind in the market today. Following today's holiday, the market will resume normal trading tomorrow, Thursday.
It's worth noting that a special one-hour "Muhurat Trading" session was held on Tuesday, October 21st, to mark Diwali. The market closed in the green with a slight gain in yesterday's special session, but it proved to be the weakest Muhurat trading performance in years.
The Muhurat trading session started well. The BSE Sensex opened 121.30 points (0.14%) higher at 84,484.67, and the Nifty gained 58.05 points (0.22%) to close at 25,901.20. However, selling pressure prevailed towards the end of trading.
In the end, Sensex closed at 84,426.34 points with a marginal gain of 62.97 points (0.07%) and Nifty closed at 25,868.60 points with a slight gain of 25.45 points (0.10%).
Looking at the data, this year's Muhurat trading performance was very weak. In comparison, the Nifty 50 index closed with a gain of 0.41 percent in Muhurat trading in 2024, 0.52 percent in 2023, 0.88 percent in 2022, 0.49 percent in 2021, and 0.47 percent in 2020.
It's worth noting that this year, Diwali was celebrated nationwide on October 20th, while Muhurat trading was held on October 21st. According to market experts, the market experienced a significant decline since September last year. Although the market has begun to recover, it remains highly volatile.
