New York (The Uttam Hindu): The residence of Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, was targeted in an attack in the United States. Police have arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the incident. The attack took place around 4 a.m. on Friday at a residential property in San Francisco’s North Beach area, where a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the house before the accused fled.

The incident caused damage to the exterior gate of the house, which was partially burnt, though no injuries were reported. According to the San Francisco Police Department, the suspect was apprehended within an hour near OpenAI’s headquarters, where he was allegedly threatening to set the building on fire. A company spokesperson confirmed the property belonged to Sam Altman and said all occupants were safe, while also thanking the police for their swift response. The company is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Police said the motive behind the attack is still under investigation. The incident comes amid rising security concerns around OpenAI and its leadership with recent protests and threats reported near company offices. A Molotov cocktail is a crude incendiary device made using a bottle filled with flammable liquid and fitted with a cloth wick, which is ignited before being thrown causing fire to spread rapidly on impact.
