Food just got costlier: Swiggy follows Zomato, hikes platform fee

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Food delivery platform Swiggy has increased the platform fee for ordering food by 17 percent to Rs 17.58 per order (including GST), which was earlier Rs 14.99.

According to the billing on the Swiggy app, the platform fee has increased by about 17 percent or Rs 2.59. The company says that this increase has been made to help in the "operation and maintenance of the platform". Earlier, Swiggy had increased the platform fee by about Rs 2 in August 2025, which was earlier Rs 12. Earlier, another food delivery platform Zomato had increased the platform fee. Zomato had increased the platform fee by 19.2 percent or Rs 2.40 per order.

After the hike, the new platform fee has become Rs 14.90 per order (before GST), which was earlier Rs 12.5. Including GST, the fee has now become Rs 17.58 per order. The increase in platform fee comes at a time when the recent increase in LPG prices has led to an increase in the cost for restaurants. Earlier, Zomato had last revised the platform fee in September 2025. Before this, in February 2025, Zomato had increased the platform fee from Rs 6 per order to Rs 10 per order during the festive season.

Swiggy shares are trading higher. At 12:30 p.m., Swiggy was up 2.55 percent at ₹279.55. The stock has fallen more than 5 percent in the past week and more than 10 percent in a month. In the past six months, it has seen a massive decline of more than 36 percent.
